Retina Display Ready?
WHAT DOES RETINA DISPLAY READY MEAN?
Retina Display is a marketing term developed by Apple to refer to devices and monitors that have a resolution and pixel density so high – roughly 300 or more pixels per inch – that a person is unable to discern the individual pixels at a normal viewing distance. Apple’s Retina Display made its debut on 2011’s iPhone 4S, which featured a 960×640 pixel screen with four times the number of pixels (326 pixels per inch) as the iPhone 4.
The new iPad that was released in early 2012 included a 2048×1536 resolution Retina Display as well. The 2012 lines of updated Mac Book Pro and Mac Book Air notebooks are expected to include Retina Display screens with 2880×1800 resolution displays. Intel is also expected to help make Retina Display a reality in laptops and Windows 8 tablets and ultrabooks with its new Ivy Bridge processor architecture.
Responsive Technology
WHAT IS RESPONSIVE TECHNOLOGY?
Responsive design is an approach to web page creation that makes use of flexible layouts, flexible images and cascading style sheet media queries. The goal of responsive design is to build web pages that detect the visitor’s screen size and orientation and change the layout accordingly.
Responsive design is a somewhat retro approach to web site design that solves a lot of design problems caused by the proliferation of new types of mobile devices. Responsive design pages use x and y coordinates on a grid for layout and mathematical percentages for images instead of fixed-width parameters. Using percentages instead of fixed-width parameters and a grid layout creates a more fluid layout that will resize itself to fit the size of the display.
Media queries, a feature of cascading style sheets (CSS), allow the developer to specify when a certain style takes effect. With CSS2, for example, a media query will serve printer-friendly style sheets if requested. CSS3 has expanded query capabilities that allow style sheets to be targeted to a device’s display and serve a desktop, tablet or smartphone style sheet depending on the query response.
This capacity means that instead of having to build a special mobile version of a website — which often requires writing new code from scratch — developers can simply build multiple style sheets for the same web page and perhaps even associate different images with each of the style sheets. As a result, HTML code can be repurposed instead of having to be rewritten, which saves considerable development time.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A RESPONSIVE WEBSITE?
Now you may be asking, “What are the benefits of a responsive site?” There are plenty! For one, responsive sites are much easier to maintain. When updating your content, you only have to update one site – rather than transferring content from your website to your mobile site.
And equally important, Google recommends responsive design for SEO. When you have a mobile site and a regular website, your business has two URLs. When you have a responsive site, there’s only one URL that people will use regardless of what device they are using. This helps Google’s algorithms assign indexing properties for content, which in return, optimizes your URL for search ranking.
There are many benefits to having a mobile site or a responsive site. It’s a big decision, but we’re happy to walk you through making your choice. Whatever you choose, it’s just important that you get a functioning, well-designed site that people can access with a tablet or mobile phone. Experts say that by the end of this year, more people will be accessing the Internet by smartphone and tablets than desktops and laptops. So, don’t hesitate to ask us about going mobile.

WHAT IS MY SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGY?
5 Easy Ways to Improve Your Social Media Marketing
1. Listen First, Then Talk
One of the great things about social media is that it makes it possible to proactively find out what problems and concerns are already being discussed by your audience.
For example, you can go on Twitter and search for keywords related to your industry or to the solution you sell, and immediately find out what people are saying. Are people complaining about a competitor, asking for ideas or referrals, asking for price quotes, or expressing frustration with some aspect of their current service provider?
Find out what people are saying, and be ready to respond with offers of assistance.
2. Build Relationships with People Who Have Bigger Audiences
Even if you are relatively new to social media, don’t be afraid to find ways to jump into conversations. Don’t be afraid to strike up conversations with experts in your field, even if they have big audiences. That’s the best way to expand your audience, by getting retweeted and mentioned by people who can introduce you to their followers.
If you offer productive contributions to conversations and share your expertise, you’ll be likely to develop a reputation of your own as someone who is worth following.
3. Start Your Own “Tribes”
Look for opportunities to start conversations related to topics that affect your industry or that respond to questions posed by your customers and prospects.
If your industry doesn’t already have an active LinkedIn group, start your own or start a group that is based on your local geography. Be a leader of conversations on social media, and people will start to look to you for real-life leadership.
Leadership is, in itself, a powerful form of marketing.
4. Don’t Spam People
This should go without saying, but too many companies are still making the mistake of bombarding people with canned, insincere messages.
Remember, you’re talking with real people – act like it.
5. Make Your Social Media Activities More Automatic – and More Personal
That said, there is a place for automated social media messages. Use tools like Hootsuite or Tweetdeck to schedule messages in advance, in bulk. Then use a dedicated 20-30 minutes per day to respond personally to questions, inquiries and to pose questions to people you follow on social media.
Social media is a promising tool because it enables us to put a human face on our companies and interact with customers in real time, with more focus and precision than ever before.
But make sure to do it the right way – with genuine authenticity and constructive contributions to the discussion.
